Horse Trek Guide – Job opportunity
Are you passionate about horses, people and nature? We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Horse Trek Guide to join our team at Golden Hills Horse Treks in beautiful Cromwell!
About the Role
This is a part-time position (approx. 3 days, 20 hours per week). Ideally we are looking for someone who is able to commit to at least one year.
As a Horse Trek Guide, you’ll play a key role in creating unforgettable experiences for our guests and help taking care of our herd of eleven horses.
Your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
- Guiding horse treks for riders of various experience levels
- Leading young or nervous riders either off your horse or from the ground
- Assisting and instructing customers, including delivering Health & Safety briefings
- Catching, rounding up, handling, feeding, and tacking up horses
- Riding and help training green horses
- Cleaning and maintaining tack and gear
- Mucking out/harrowing paddocks and helping with general paddock maintenance
Essential requirements:
- Able to start by November 1st at the latest – earlier start preferred
- Minimum 5 years of riding experience
- Minimum 1 year of professional work experience in the equine industry
- Minimum 1 year of customer service experience
- Valid NZ work visa, ideally allowing you to work for at least one year
- Valid driver’s licence
- Strong spoken English and the ability to communicate clearly with customers
- Able to work on weekends and school holidays
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Reliable, strong work ethic and well organised, with good time-management skills
- Confident handling and riding horses of all temperaments, including green horses
- Comfortable working independently as well as part of a small team
- A genuine passion for working with horses and people
It’s a bonus if you also have:
- Previous horse trekking guide experience
- A valid First Aid certificate
